Zix is awesome, his name shares 2 of 3 letters with m… wait? What? Its Kha’zix? That is still cool I guess. He matches the other void creatures at least, three apostrophe three is there common theme from those creatures of that dark area known as the Void.
I have seen much in my days, and from my time on Earth, Kha’zix reminds me of a more lowly insect species known as the Praying-Mantis. The posture, the claws, the antenna, there should be no doubt that one of these simple insecticidal species was taken into the void and feasted on anything and everything smaller than it until its species became what is now Kha’zix.
Kha’zix has his perks and his flaws and from seeing him in action, even when he is stealthed, whether on his team or against him I believe I can identify what his strong suits are as well as where he falls short.
Having incredibly high burst damage is nothing that a champion would not be proud of. Kha’zix has one of the highest damaging moves built into “Taste Their Fear.” It does significant damage when you are surrounded by your own teammates, but should you be alone, you will take increased damage that can range up to and over 800 points. Kha’zix needs to use this move only once or twice to take out squishier targets, but due to its short cooldown, he has the option to use it almost too frequently. Should Kha’zix spec into evolving his claws, his attack range increases and “Taste Their Fear” also removes 12% of targets missing HP.If Kha’zix jumps out at you, his “Unseen Threat” could spell you end. When Kha’zix is not visible to the enemy team he gains a stack/ He consumes said stack when landing an Auto-Attack on an enemy champion. The stack starts at 15 damage and can, at level 18 deal 220 damage along its AP Ratio and the secondary slow effect.~ Speaking of jumping out at you, Kha’zix has a Leap, much like our friendly Meggling Gunner, Kha’zix can jump down on you to unleash his moves. If he specs into evolving his wings he can both jump further and becomes more tristana-like by being able to activate Leap again when getting a kill or assist on an enemy champion.Although Kha’zix seems as he should be purely melee based damage, he has a great addition of “Void Spike.” This is a relatively long and narrow skill shot that explodes in a small radius upon hitting an enemy. If Kha’zix is in the explosion radius he is healed, a heal which scales with an AP Ratio. When his spikes are evolved, Kha’zix fires 3 sets of spikes in a cone shape that can apply “Unseen Threat.” As his ultimate, “Void Assault” would suggest, Kha’zix is rather movement based and is a rather powerful assassin. Diving in and out of stealth to recharge “Unseen Threat” as well as gaining movement speed bonuses, Kha’zix can keep up with an enemy and poke them down before having them fall to “Taste their Fear.”
Kha’zix is designed to take wandering enemies out, by traveling in groups you greatly increase the chance of keeping him visible and not re-stacking “Unseen Threat,” as well as not allowing his “Taste their Fear” to gain its bonus damage. With strong burst damage and good escape mechanics comes a rather weak defense and hp. If Kha’zix is focused down in team fights he will often not have the ability to escape. A simple Stun can give enough time to take him down.
Tips For playing Kha’zix:
You have Burst Damage, wait for your enemies to be separated from their minions, then go in for the kill.Make sure you ward your river, you don’t want to think you can get off an increased power “Taste their Fear” only to find a gank waiting for you.If you are Jungling, clear lesser minions first so the camp’s buff givers are isolated for max damage on “Taste their Fear”When in lane, it may pay to brag a Vision Ward or Two, odds are your enemy will buy sight wards to keep you from getting “Unseen Threat.”
Tips for playing AGAINST Kha’zix:
Kha’zix is burst damage based, he is less Attack Speed oriented. While his damage is Melee based, Thornmail is slightly less effective than Frozen Heart, dropping his attack speed low enough and protecting you from a majority of his abilities that your team should be able to get to your position. More importantly, the Cooldown reduction helps over return damage should you have crowd control you wish to spam on him. At most, Kha’zix will need 4 basic attacks, return damage just doesn’t sound viable against that. In team fights, either crowd control and focus Kha’zix early on or get prepared for him to do his clean-up act. Don’t leave your AD and AP Carries to fight in the back Line as Kha’zix can flank and take them out quick should they be too far from the remainder of the teamIf you find Kha’zix to be your lane opponent, invest in Sight Wards and maybe a Wriggle’s Lantern. Keep the brush lit so he can not gain “Unseen Threat” with ease.I said Thornmail is worse than Frozen Heart, but buy what ever armor you can, tanks such as Malphite and some Rengars will be good counters.
As with many Jungling Melee Champions, whether in lane or in jungle, a solid base build is essential. A common way to make sure you are winning is Wriggle’s Lantern, 2x Doran’s Blade and Merc Treads. The rest, it evolves from there in accordance to what you need.Accept Defeat is My Summoner’s Rift build, early game damage and kill leads are secured by with help of wriggle’s lantern, but the item and the Doran’s blades are later replaced with Frozen Mallet to keep enemies slowed and Guardian Angel as thus far I have been focused hard late game.Evolve and Dominate is for Dominion where your natural damage and mobility will help you excel beyond most championsMY BUILDS ARE FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, THEY WORK FOR ME, BUT EXPERIMENT, there is no reason to degrade my builds, just leave a comment of what you use and be on your merry way
